1. John Bane Sr. – born 1747, married Margaret. Died 9 Apr. 1819. Buried at Roney’s Point Tent Church Cemetery.
2. Children of John and Margaret - Margaret, Daniel, Hugh, John Jr., Mary, and Robert.
3. Children of Hugh & Margaret McGregor Bane – Mary, William, John, Alexander, and Margaret. Children of John Bane Jr.: James, David, Samuel, Mary and Elizabeth.

A letter written to Robert Richardson, from Mr. James E. Bane, Sr. of Hopedale, Ohio, dated 3 Jan 1983:

This letter is being written in regards to your new book, A Time and Place in Ohio. I am interested in knowing when this book will be ready, of which I would like to obtain a copy.  Several years ago I obtained your book, Tilton Territory of which I found my 2nd great grandfather mentioned by name John Bane and Bane’s warehouse, and his brother Robert Bane. Do you know if there is any more mention in your new book of John and Robert Bane?

I have to tell you that I have had hours of enjoyment in reading your book. John Bane Jr. was one of the parties responsible for starting the First National Bank at Mt. Pleasant, Ohio which was run for a time by George Hogg, both were from Short Creek, WV. Also note that John Jr. and Robert Bane’s father was the party who started the first Ferry across the Ohio River at the mouth of Short Creek WV to Warrenton in 1811.

There are not many of the Bane Families left in the area who are descendants of John Bane Sr., 1753-1819, except my own family, my father has  a brother, William E. Bane of Granview St. Tiltonsville. I am a registered genealogist and I have the Bane family, in this area, from Sept 1776 to the present.  Thank you, respectfully, James E. Bane Sr.

LAND GRANT to JOHN BAIN, 5 July 1786

Patrick Henry, Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia: TO ALL WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETINGS: KNOW YE, BY  virtue of a certificate in right of settlement given by the commissioners for adjusting the titles to unpatented lands in the district of Monongalia, Yohogania and Ohio and in consideration of the ancient composition of two pounds sterling paid by JOHN BAIN into the treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said JOHN BAIN assignee of John Mitchell who was assignee of Jacob Paull a certain tract or parcel of land containing 400 acres by survey bearing date the 10th day of January 1782 SHORT CREEK on the upper side including his settlement made in the year 1776 and bounded as follows: to wit, beginning at a Sugar Tree near the bank of Short Creek…branch corner to Samuel Vanberskirk and with his line south…to said JOHN BAIN and his heirs forever. WITNESS WHEREOF…5th day of July in the year of our Lord ONE THOUSAND SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-SIX and of the Commonwealth the Eleventh. Signed and sealed, P. Henry

Children of John Jr. & Mary Taylor Bane: William, born July 1828; John, born 1835; Amanda, born 1837; Robert, born 1839; Emeline, born 11 Feb 1842; Taylor, born 11 Dec 1843; all born at Windsor Heights, which was Virginia at that time.
