GAR Post organizer

Harry Hale was buried in the Richmond Methodist Episcopal Cemetery (the old M.E. Church Cemetery). He served as GAR organizer for Post No. 427, Department of Ohio, G.A.R. It was organized April 1, 1884 at Richmond, Ohio.

The Post was named after Joseph Harry H. Hale. He was born near Richmond, Ohio on April 1, 1839 and enlisted for service on May 18, 1861 at Wellsburg, West Virginia in Company G. 1st infantry. He died in the Virginia Hills on July 11, 1861. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church of this village. This being the burial of the first fallen soldier of this vicinity and all that remained on earth of our comrade was laid away in the Methodist Episcopal Cemetery to rest. (Taken from D. W.
