William was orphaned and raised by an uncle in Steubenville. He was also commissioned as a missionary to India by the Presbyterian Church of Steubenville, 1860. His wife Rachel attended Female Seminary in Steubenville prior to 1860. Using letters of his wife Rachel, vintage books, and family documents , I compiled a biographical sketch about William F. Johnson and his wife Rachel. It also contains a genealogy of William's ancestors in Ohio and a bibliography of sources used. There is a 1912c picture of William and two of his daughters.
