Obituary for David Moodey
Service at the residence Monday at 2 p.m.

Death of the Oldest Citizen of Steubenville- (Weekly Herald, May 15, 1861)Mr. David Moodey, died at the residence of his son, R.S. Moodey, Esq., yesterday, in the 74th year of his age.

Mr. Moodey came to this city, in the year 1797, with his parents, who emigrated to Steubenville from Lancaster County, Pa., that year. He was at that time but nine years of age, and has resided here ever since, sixty-three years. At the time he came here in 1797, there were but few houses in the city, most of which were log cabins, and the greater portion of the ground upon which Steubenville is now built, was an unbroken wilderness.

Mr. Moodey, was in early life engaged in the Land Office, under the venerable David Hoge, long since deceased-was subsequently, and for some thirty years, cashier of the old ‘Farmers and Mechanics’ Bank, the Jefferson Branch Bank and the Citizens Bank. He was a very competent businessman, and as cashier, had but few, if any superiors in the State. He was a most estimable citizen, clever, gentlemanly and courteous, he had not, probably, an enemy in the world, and dies not only beloved by his family, his immediate friends, but regretted by a large circle of acquaintances, who will ever cherish his memory with kind recollections.

The funeral service, of the deceased will be held at the First Presbyterian Church (tomorrow) Friday morning, at 10 o’clock, the friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend.
