Regiment (West) Virginia Infantry Volunteers was organized at Wheeling, Virginia in mid to late May, 1861,\par
from volunteer companies from Brooke, Hancock, Marshall and Ohio counties of Virginia and Jefferson county in Ohio, \par which had been formed in April and May 1861 to resist aggressions from that portion of Virginia which had seceded from the\par Union; and under the call of President Abraham Lincoln for 75,000 men, it was mustered into the service of the\par United States for the period of three months, under the command of Col. Benjamin F. Kelley. On the 26th day of\par May, 1861, they left Camp Carlile, at Wheeling, and proceeded to several bridge near Mannington, on the Baltimore\par and Ohio Railroad, which had been destroyed by the rebels. After remaining there for two days to repair the bridges,\par they marched to Grafton, Va., where a body of State militia had been collected, under command of the rebel Col. \par George A. Added by cfulton174 on 22 Sep 2007 According to the journal of Daniel Bert, husband of Ora Billingsley Bert, the twin sister of Nora: "Ora was fair complection with piercing black eyes and coal black hair. NORA, her twin sister being light complection and almost white hair. Ora's weight was 92 pounds when we were married. At the age of 40 she weighed 136 pounds and was about five foot tall."

Annie's father, husband, and at least 2 brothers served in the civil war. Her father was killed and her brother Vincent died of disease. Her husband and brother William made it back home. William and his wife Levina are also buried in Warrenton Cemetery.
