Scott/Moore

James Scott Naturalization

I'm searching for Scotts and Moores. I want to trace them back to their home in Northern Ireland before they came to Ohio in the early 1800's.

I have an entry in the "History of Belmont and Jefferson Counties" that says: John Moore, a native of Ireland came to Jefferson County in 1805, and settled in Cross Creek township, where he remained until his death. Also #295 from Will Abstracts from Book 2 Jeff. Co. NW Territory: John Moore; dated 28 Oct. 1832; wife Catherine; sons John, William and daughter Lucy, wife of John Scott; etc. My records show that John, William and Lucy were those children. Lucy married John Scott. That is my line and I am descended from their son David Scott born 3/13/1836 in Jefferson County, OH.

I have John and Lucy's marriage notice 2/17/1814. They had 10 children: Katherine, James, Susannah, Mary, Moore, Wesley, William, David and Andrew.

I do have many land records for them in Jefferson County, Wells Twp. Many of them removed between 1850 and 1860 to Tazewell County, IL.

I finally found John's father, James Scott in this document from Jefferson County Open Court in the attachment.

I want to trace both families back to Northern Ireland but I also want more information about their life in Jefferson County - (which was Warren County at one time?) and the children that survived and those that did not. I do have a picture of one son, Moore Scott's, gravestone in New Alexandria Cemetery.
