MISS JANE SHERRARD

The funeral service of Miss Jane Sherrard were held this morning. Rev. Woods of Washington, Pa. officating, assisted by Revs. Reid and McKinley. The pall and flower bearers were: J. A. Kithcart, R.W. Sherrard, R.S. Orr, Henry Kithcart, Morris Sherrard, Hallock C. Sherrard, Thos. J. and Robt. A. Sherrard.

ELIZABETH SHERRARD KITHCART

ELIZABETH, wife of JOSEPH KITHCART, one of the best known women in Jefferson County, died at her home at Mt. Pleasant Thursday morning of pneumonia, in her seventieth year. She was born on Rush Run and was a daughter of ROBERT SHERRARD, SR, who at the time of his death owned the old Kaminsky mill. She was united in marriage with JOSEPH KITHCART, a prosperous farmer of Mt. Pleasant Township, and she lived on the farm up to her death. She leaves a husband and seven children, HON. JOHN A. of this city, SHERRARD of Tennessee, MARY ORR, HENRY and ANNIE CLEAVER OF Mt. Pleasant and JESSIE and ELLA at home. She was one of twelve children, the surviving being HON. R. SHERRARD and MRS. M. A. HILL of this city, DAVID of Fremont, NANCY of the Washington Seminary, REV. JOHN OF Rockville, Ind., JANE of Washington, MRS. ORR of Carron, Pa. and REV. THOMAS of Chambersburg, Pa. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church. The funeral will be Friday afternoon.

REUNION

MR. SPRAGUE and family, JOHN KITHCART and family, ROBERT SHERRARD and MRS. MARY HILL, all of Steubenville attended the KITHCART picnic last week. Also DAVID SHERRARD and daughter, MRS. OVERMYER of Fremont. Wednesday, Aug. 6th was the day of the annual reunion of the Kithcart family and connections. The rain the day before laid the dust and cooled the air so that a more delightful day could not have been asked for. They met in SMILEY KITHCART’S orchard at the east end of town, 104 being present, some from quite a distance. After a sumptuous dinner of all the good things imaginable, MR SHEETS, the photographer from Wellsville, took a picture of the assembled company. MISS JESSIE KITHCART, corresponding secretary, then read her report and MRS. J.P. BRACKEN, The Historian, gave the history of all family incidents of interest for the year. The same officers were elected for the ensuing year, MR. WILLIAM SHARON, of Colerain, being President of the organization. Before separating ROBERT SHERRARD PRESENTED each family with a “History of the Sherrard Family,” compiled by REV. THOMAS SHERRARD. MRS. MARTHA SHARON of this place was the oldest person present.

MISS SARAH SHERRARD
At six O’clock p.m. Monday, March 4th, at her home in Washington, Pa., died Miss Sarah Sherrard, youngest daughter of the late Robert A. Sherrard and sister of Hon. Robert Sherrard of this city. Miss Sherrard was 52 years of age and for most of her life was a physical sufferer, having her lower limbs paralyzed when five years old. Reared on the Sherrard farm southwest of Steubenville among the youngest of twelve children, Miss Sherrard lived there until October 1875, some years after her father’s death when in company with her mother and sister Jane, she went to Washington, Pa. To make her home with another sister, Miss Nancy Sherrard, then and since in charge of the Washington Female Seminary. The remains were brought to Steubenville this morning and interred in the Union Cemetery. Accompanying them were Rev. Dr. Woods, her brothers, David of Fremont, OH.; Rev. John H., of Rockville, Ind. And Rev. Thomas J. of Honeybrook, Pa., her sister, Miss Jane of Washington, and nephews, Maurice Sherrard, Robert Orr and Sherrard Elliott, students at Washington. Another sister, Mrs. Susan Orr, remained at Washington with her aged mother.

MRS. BELLE SHARP SHERRARD, wife of CAPT. SHERRARD of the U.S. Navy, is at home in Washington, but her husband has gone on a trip to Germany. MRS. CHAMBERS, her mother is living with her in Washington.

REUNION

The KITHCART family reunion was held on Wednesday, August 5th, in MR. JOSEPH KITHCART’S woods. Over one hundred were present, quite a number of them from a distance, among others were SHERRARD KITHCART and family of Marysville, Tennessee; ROBERT SHERRARD and family of Fremont, Ohio; JOHN KITHCART and family, E.C. SPRAGUE and family, MRS. HILL and daughter, ROSE of Steubenville; MRS. LOU PAGE of Parkersburg, W.Va.; MRS. REBECCA DICKEY and two daughters of Allegheny, Pa.

REUNION

On Wednesday September 9th, the family of JOSEPH KITHCART held a reunion at the father’s home near Mount Pleasant, this county, the entire family, consisting of three sons and four daughters, now living, together with their husbands and wives, being present, as also the husband of one daughter some years deceased. The grandchildren to the number of 12 were present making three generations, and numbering twenty-seven. This was the first reunion in nine years, the family being scattered. One son lives at Marysville, Tennessee, and one son resided in Kansas for some years, but about a year ago he removed to the western part of this state; the rest all reside in this county. In the afternoon WALTER HUSSEY came with his photographic outfit and took a picture of the family in a group.

The Master called away the spirit of MRS. MARY A. HILL. The spirit left the clay body (on a beautiful Sabbath morning). She was surrounded by the immediate members of her own family at her home on North Fourth Street. MRS. MARY A. HILL was born march 26, 1817, and was therefore 76 years of age at the time of her death. She was the daughter of ROBERT A. and MARY SHERRARD and was born near KAMINSKY’S Mills on Rush Run, where she spent her early days. She was married October 10, 1848, to the late JOSEPH W. HILL, who preceded her to the grave February 22, 1877. They lived on the home farm, west of the city, near what is known as Hills; school house. The following children survive her; MARTHA A., wife of REV. D.R. KERR of Bellevue, Neb.; MARY, wife of J.M. BENNETT of Mt. Pleasant; ROSAMOND C. and ELIZABETH J. at home, and ROBERT S. HILL on the old home place west of the city. Of her own family there survive: DAVID C. SHERRARD of Fremont; HON. ROBERT SHERRARD of this city. NANCY and JANE SHERRARD of Washington, Pa.; REV. JOHN H. SHERRARD of Rockville, Ind.; MRS. SUSAN ORR of Limestone, Pa.; and REV. THOMAS J. SHERRARD of Chambersburg, Pa. She had been a member of the First Presbyterian Church for fifty-nine years.
