A Family of Civil War Veterans

The following are children of Mareen & Rachel Howard Duvall, or son-in-laws or grandsons in some cases.

• Oliver Smith Hanlon – Union, 30th Oh Co. G., army, private, died 25 Feb. 1862, Fayetteville, WV, aged 17. Son of Wm. and Elizabeth Duvall Hanlon.
• William Howard Hanlon – Union, 2nd WV Cav. Co C, army, saddler. Son of Wm. and Elizabeth Duvall Hanlon.
• Edward Tappan Hanlon – Union, 52nd, Oh Co E. army, sergeant, enlisted 21 Aug. 1862, discharged 16 May 1865. Son of Wm. and Elizabeth Duvall Hanlon.
• Samuel Marren Hanlon – Union, 52nd Oh, Co E, army, private, enlisted 21 Aug., 1862, died Peachtree Creek, GA Jul 19, 1864. Son of Wm. and Elizabeth Duvall Hanlon.
• Basil Howard Maxwell – Union, 52nd Co E, army, private, enlisted 13 Aug. 1862, discharged 3 Jun 1865.
• William A. Duvall – Union, 52nd Oh Co B, army, sergeant, entry unknown, died 23 Nov. 1862, hospital in Nashville, TN.
• William Duvall – Union, 52nd Oh Co F, sergeant, army, enlisted 11 Aug. 1862 (42 yr. old), discharged 3 Jun 1865.
• Thomas W. Fowler – Union, 25th Oh Co A, Corporal, army, enlisted 5 Jun 1861, discharged 18 Jun 1866 (wounded at Gettysburg on 1 Jul 1863).
• William Hipsley- Union, 157th Oh Co E, army, private, enlisted 2 May 1864, discharged 2 Sep. 1864.

Barbara Rentenbach writes – I have often wondered if there were some articles in the papers for that time, especially about the Hanlons sending 4 sons. I have the article in the history book about Theophilus’ brothers… in the bio but not much else. If you come across anything or have access to other “news” of these soldiers and veterans, I would love to have it. I have checked the digital shoebox for veteran’s graves and many of these are buried in Jefferson County, Ohio. I have never written for these pension papers.
