Flora L VerStraten met Delma McCourt many years ago while Flora was the Director at the LDS Family History Center, in Wintersville, Ohio. They soon learned that they were related through their CHANEY and HOLT family lines and stayed in touch from then on; preceding Delma’s passing on June 1, 2005. Delma gave Flora photo copies of the ledger pages, listed below. It is with much honor, that I share, just a small portion from these copied pages. It was later donated to our chapter compiled & titled, John Morton Esq., Justice of the Peace of Smithfield Twp., 1810-1846.
Please note that the complete original ledger was donated to the Harrison County Genealogical Society in 1992 and librarian, Sarah Sall transcribed the entire ledger and a copy of it was donated to our chapter in 2005. The compiled booklet includes an index.
NOTE – Flora has made no attempts to altar or correct the surname spellings from the copied pages. Many times the same surnames appeared and were spelled differently. This is NOT a complete list…
