Mexico War Soldiers Graves In Salem Township.

The following was taken from D.W. Thompson’s cemetery journal, Salem Twp, Jefferson County, Ohio Veterans . The following text is “exactly” as it appears in his ledger. The orginal ledger was given to Flora L. VerStraten with permission to copy and extract the data for genealogical use by the chapter.

Mexico War Congress declared War against Mexico on May 13, 1846. The Treaty of Peace was signed Feb 2, 1848.

Mexico War Soldiers Graves

In Salem Twp., Oh is as follows:

  1. William C. Parson was a private in Co. K 1st Reg. O.V.I. and died May 6, 1854 at age 41 and is buried in row 6.  (F.Q.)
  2. Samuel P. Jones was a private in Co. D 2nd Reg. O.V.I. and died Feb 19, 1861 at age 36 and is buried in row 4. (A)
  3. Jesse Hall served under Captain Churchill’s Co. and died in 1866 at age 39. (F.Q.)
  4. Samuel W. Shields was a Sergeant and served in Co. G 3rd Reg. O.V.I. and died July 30, 1882 at age 64 and is buried in row 13.  (A)
  5. John Thompson served in Co. A 3rd Reg. O.V.I. and he died April 5, 1903 at age 83. He is buried in sec. C, row 6. (E.S.)
  6. James McKee died June 2, 1899 at age 80 and is buried in row 6. (A)
