Springfield Township was formed Dec 6, 1804. It was created from several townships. It is known for Yellow Creek and its rich salt springs. When first formed it included Brush Creek Township and part of Salem Township and about 1/7 of Harrison County and 1/2 of Carroll County. Pioneer Surnames Include: Lyon, Tucker, Davidson, Thompson, McIntrye, Hess, Griffith, Knox, Ruthledge, Scarlot, George, Johnston, Young, Taylor, Hanson and Lowrie.
