Census records are one of the most important resources for genealogical research, helping researchers identify family members, ages, occupations, and household relationships. The Jefferson County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society has compiled several valuable census publications and indexes to assist researchers studying Jefferson County families. These publications represent many hours of work by dedicated volunteers and researchers. Individual publications are available through a suggested chapter donation of $25 per publication.

Special surviving census record

The 1890 Federal Census was largely destroyed by fire; however, the special census of Union veterans and their widows survived. This publication reproduces the Jefferson County, Ohio portion in its entirety from the original records. An every-name index compiled by chapter members is included, making this an especially valuable resource for researching Civil War veterans and their families.
