Gordon/Madranski Farm Private Cemetery
Amsterdam, Jefferson County, Ohio
The following information was provided by Thomas A. Hill, direct descendant of the Gordon family.
Tombstones and photos were taken by Tom on August 31, 1977, when he visited the Madranski Farm in Springfield Twp., Jefferson County, Ohio. Mr. Madranski did not indicate whether or not there were others buried there. When Tom first spoke to him in 1977, he seemed to be only familiar with these two Gordon tombstones.
When I took the tombstone photos of Joseph and Phebe, they were laying by themselves in a thicket along the road outside of Amsterdam, across from what had once been the Robert McGee homestead. In the 1970's the home/farm was owned by a Madranski family and the head of the household told me that it was his understanding that the two stones had been placed there when the coal miners came through and mined the area where the family plot had originally been located, elsewhere on the farm.
The Gordon's were living with their daughter and son-in-law at the time of their death. Their daughter was, Jane, who married Robert Magee, my 3rd great grandfather. Robert Magee built the house in 1836, and in the 1970's the Madranski's lived there.
Robert and Jane Magee, however, are buried in the Amsterdam Cemetery.
